What they needed
Traditional home inventory and insurance processes are complex, time-consuming, and often leave homeowners underinsured. StepInsight set out to revolutionize how homeowners manage and protect their assets by creating an intuitive app that seamlessly integrates advanced AI technologies. The challenge was to simplify the end-to-end process of home inventory and valuation while ensuring users feel empowered and supported through a thoughtful, strategic design process before development began. We aimed to address issues like underinsurance and the cumbersome nature of insurance claims with a solution that is both innovative and user-friendly.
What we delivered
We designed and built myVal, an AI-powered mobile application that turns the complex task of asset management into a simple, guided experience. By combining human-centred UX, smart onboarding, and integrated AI services, the app helps homeowners quickly estimate the value of their belongings, maintain an accurate inventory, and be better prepared for insurance discussions and claims. The result is a single, intuitive tool that brings together valuation, documentation, and insight in a way that feels approachable for everyday users.

How we got there
Our approach blended collaborative discovery, human-centred design, and modern mobile engineering. We partnered closely with clients and stakeholders through workshops and open dialogue to align on a shared vision, ensuring every feature of myVal was grounded in real homeowner needs. We focused on a frictionless onboarding flow that lets users get an initial estimate of their assets from a single address input, lowering barriers to engagement. Under the hood, we integrated OpenAI’s language models and Google’s Shopping APIs to unify image recognition, categorisation, and valuation capabilities, while leveraging Flutter for fast, cross-platform development. Throughout, we iterated quickly, paid close attention to design details, and ensured the product met a high standard of usability and reliability.
